This thesis evaluates the role of the ecological factor in the modernization of China’s industrial sector in the 21st century, focusing on China's pivotal status as a major industrial power and the largest emitter of greenhouse gases globally. The objective is to assess how environmental considerations influence industrial strategies and reforms in China, especially in its pursuit of carbon neutrality by 2060. It underscores the importance of incorporating the "ecological civilization" concept into the nation's industrial policy framework. Research goals include analyzing the development of sustainable development principles in China, investigating environmental challenges from industrial activities, and assessing the influence of governmental agencies in formulating environmental policies. The study further investigates industry-specific shifts towards decarbonization in the energy and manufacturing sectors, examining the hurdles involved in ecological modernization. The results indicate substantial reforms within China’s industrial sector to boost ecological sustainability, marked by strict environmental regulations, escalated investments in green technologies, and a shift towards renewable energy. The thesis elucidates the complexities in executing these strategies, which are vital for aligning rapid industrial expansion with environmental preservation.
