In modern culture, images have long been one of the most popular ways of representing the world around us. At the same time, the advent of digital methods of creating, transmitting and editing images has opened up new opportunities for people: on the one hand, they have made the production of images more accessible, on the other hand, they have given more space for manipulating them. The visual landscape of humanity is filled with an increasing number of images consisting of several visual layers: images assembled from parts of several visuals. The topic of this study is to consider the specifics of a composite image using the example of photographic and collage pictures of the XX and XXI centuries, depending on the mechanics of their construction. The purpose of this work is to study the main characteristics of the composite image of a modern image, depending on the type of construction technique used, as well as the method of transmission. As a key difference between the digital and analog methods of constructing a composite image, we highlight the characteristic of a "seam" located at the intersection of different visuals inside one image.
