Elections are one of the most important objects for political research. A separate area of electoral research is the study of territorial differences in voting, which is influenced by many factors. Among them, one can single out the "historical heritage". In this work, there was an attempt to study the "historical heritage" of the abolished regions of the Russian Federation. To do this, we used Mann-Whitney method on the voting data for «United Russia» in federal and regional elections for 2003-2018. The results show that in the territory of the abolished regions, support for the party in power is statistically significantly higher. However, further studies of the significance of the "historical heritage" factor and the exclusion of other factors are required.
