The trend towards sustainable development continues in the world, and in Russia the SDGs are enshrined at the national level. However, the trend in the development of the ESG agenda by business is ambiguous. There is a shift in emphasis to only one factor of the ESG standard out of three. Is this followed by any risks? And when many Western investors have left the region, who is the main advocate for the sustainable development of the corporate sector in today’s Russia. Moreover, what is the role of the state in stimulating the ESG-transformation of business? In this paper extensive literature review is used, along with a series of semi-structured expert interviews in order to receive a clear answer to the developed questions. Finally, the employed research methods allow the author to offer a number of state policy measures to support the implementation of ESG-strategies in Russian companies.
