In the 20th century, the toponymy of Vienna (the system of names of squares and streets of the city) underwent serious changes as a result of radical political events In 1918, the Austro-Hungarian Empire collapsed, a republic was proclaimed in its Austrian part, and social Democrats were in power; in 1934, the republic was replaced by a "corporate state" of right-wing radicals (Austrofascism); in 1938, as a result of the Anschluss, Austria became part of Nazi Germany; in 1945, the country was liberated, but remained under Allied occupation; only in 1955 Austria gained sovereignty and began independent development. In the capital, the change of one political regime to another was invariably accompanied by the renaming of streets and squares, as well as the appearance of new names on the map. This work is a study of the toponymy of Vienna as an Austrian historical and cultural heritage of the XX century
