The Dogme approach termed as "materials-light", i.e. based on rejection of ‘external’ materials (for example, coursebooks) in favor of a significant share of spontaneity in communication and educational interaction causes mistrust by teachers, because they do not know how the Dogme approach can be implemented at A1 and A2 CEFR proficiency levels. This dissertation discusses how the Dogme approach may be implemented at the beginner and elementary levels in the context of German language teaching. It also examines the effectiveness of the Dogme approach in both formal (at HSE University) and informal (private teaching) contexts. The result of this research is methodological recommendations for teachers, which include a lesson structure for a Dogme lesson at A1 and A2 CEFR proficiency levels and suggestions on how to employ the approach in lesson planning and teaching.
