Year of Graduation: 2024

The main goal of current research is to test elimination contests on the presence of impact of future competition, also known as a shadow effect, on decisions of agents in the current stage of tournaments. We consider a wide range of high-level tennis matches to investigate the uniqueness of the explored effect. To find a statistical relation between future competition and effort of agent, we use a fixed effect (FE) linear model on single male and female matches from 1968 to 2023 years and double male and female matches from 2000 to 2023 years. We find insignificance of future competition on current decisions and also provide alternative explanations of reducing of effort levels in current stages.
