This research aims to analyse the impact of a highly sanctioned environment on strategies of Russian high-tech firms as well as to investigate the link between the personal characteristics of the owner-CEOs and their strategic responses to crisis. Multiple case study methodology has been employed to comprehend the impact of the sanctioned environment on business strategy. For this investigation, information about seven Russian high-tech companies and their owners was gathered through multiple data sources, such as interviews, social media, statistical data, and others. Thematic analysis methods allowed for in-depth analysis of obtained data and further formulation of conclusions. The results of the research suggest that the relationship between the owner-CEO identity and the business strategy is mediated by the willingness to take risks, and moderated by the owner-CEO previous crisis experience. The findings of the study have theoretical implications, particularly in the research on the organisational adaptation in crisis environment. Furthermore, the results are expected to provide practical value for CEOs of high-tech firms.
