The Role of Regression in the Psychoanalytic Process

The object of this study is the phenomenon of regression. The relevance of the study of regression as a phenomenon is the widespread use of the term regression in psychology and psychoanalysis to designate and explain a wide range of psychopathological processes and conditions. The purpose of the study is to categorize and classify regression, clarify its role in psychotherapy and the psychoanalytic process. In the work, regression was considered from the perspective of evolutionary biology, psychophysiology and neurophysiology, experimental psychology, practical psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. The general biological adaptive nature of regression was established. A study of regression was conducted within the framework of the general psychotherapeutic process and in individual psychotherapeutic modalities. The role of regression has been studied both in the general psychoanalytic paradigm and in the works of psychoanalysts of various schools and directions.
