Information Structure in Simultaneous Interpreting: Formal Grammar Restructuring

This dissertation explores the methods of simultaneous interpretation of diplomatic speeches by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The study examines the primary strategies and challenges faced by interpreters when dealing with complex diplomatic statements, taking into account the nuances of linguistic constructions and the emotional richness of the original speech. Various translation approaches are considered, including fronting, use of passive voice, creation of cleft sentences, and application of special syntactic constructions and word order alterations. The information from the «Cambridge Grammar of English» and examples of simultaneous translations forms the basis for analysis. Special attention is given to the impact of translation methods on the accuracy and emotional perception of the translated text, as well as their ability to convey the intentions of the original statement. The results of the study highlight the need to develop methods for training interpreters and improving the quality of simultaneous translation in the field of international communications.
