The study is dedicated to the analysis of the means of fixation of emotional situation in human language based on the novels "The Shining" and "The Stand" written by Stephen King and "Heart-shaped box" written by Joe Hill. The objective of the study is to investigate how an emotional situation can manifest itself in speech in specific texts, which conceptual metaphors could be used in order to map the emotional situation in human mind and speech and to elaborate a course "English through horror fiction". The scientific outcomes of the study: - there has been designed a course in a format of a reading club, which is based on the novels written by Stephen King and Joe Hill; in the given course the students can reinforce their reading, speaking, writing and listening skills and develop intercultural competence; - we have concluded that the choice of a conceptual metaphor depends on the type of fear which is being depicted (fear, aversion, awe) (for example, awe = SUPERIOR) - regardless of the type-dependant metaphors, there are general models of mapping which describe the feeling of fear in general (for example, fear = PHYSICAL REACTION) The results of the study might be useful for teachers, linguists and psychologists. There is a need of future research in terms of studying works by other authors who describe emotional situation, and studying the ways of fixation of an emotional situation in spoken language.
