This research examines the different semantic changes which occur when English words are adopted into the Russian language, namely pop songs. Loanwords for this research are taken from pop stars via listening to the radio and checking songs of similar pop stars that feat (feature) their pop star friends. Before carrying out a semantic analysis, it is important to understand how English as a Lingua Franca influences the words that are being borrowed. Then a comprehensive semantic analysis can be done in order to understand how those particular words assimilate and whether there exist any Russian equivalents. The conclusion drawn here along with the corpus of pop songs can contribute to the field of language borrowing by suggesting a new subfield. Namely this gap in the research of loanwords is the aim of this research. Furthermore, this corpus can assist both teachers and students in order to understand how to properly use these loanwords in the original language. Keywords: borrowings, assimilation, loanwords, semantics, corpus, songs, anglicisms
