The Association between Satisfaction with Working Conditions and Wage

This thesis investigates the association between satisfaction with working conditions and wage levels. The study aims to understand how satisfaction with working conditions impacts job satisfaction and well-being, with a focus on the evolving factors influencing employee satisfaction. Using survey data from 5,495 employees in Russia for the year 2021 and employing ordinary least squares (OLS) regression analysis, the research identifies key factors affecting satisfaction with working conditions, including age, gender, marital status, type of settlement, occupation, type of production, and working hours per week. The findings reveal that the main determinants of satisfaction with working conditions have evolved over time. The study emphasizes the importance of recognizing these evolving factors to enhance job satisfaction and overall quality of work life. The results suggest that improving working conditions is essential for organizations and governments to enhance employee well being and job satisfaction. Specifically, the study found a significant positive relationship between satisfaction with working conditions and wage levels, contrary to the expected negative relationship based on the theory of compensating wage differentials. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the interplay between satisfaction with working conditions and wage levels, providing valuable insights for organizations and policymakers to create conducive work environments that promote employee well-being and job satisfaction. The study highlights the need for inclusive and equitable practices in the workplace and the labor market as a whole, addressing persistent inequalities and fostering a positive work culture that attracts and retains top talent.
