Financial Performance Prediction in the Film Industry

The goals of the research team are not fundamentally aimed only at studying the possibility of predicting the financial success of a film, since this issue has already been considered (Murshets et al., 2020); the main goal is to adapt existing methodologies for the Russian audience. And also evaluate the significance of certain indicators, such as the seasonality of the film’s release, the duration of the film. age rating and genre of the film, the relationship between budgeting and box office receipts. The purpose of the study is to identify the most influential factors that increase the box office receipts of a film in the film industry. Thus, based on data collected from Kinopoisk and sites with information on box office receipts, researchers are going to test the use of combined predictive models in the form of random forests, factor analysis, decision trees and adapt a model that would fully reflect the needs of the Russian viewer in cinema. despite the relatively small number of successful films shot in Russia relative to world cinema.
