Youth Entrepreneurship in the Context of Migration: The Case of Young Russians Leaving the Country in 2022-2024

The dissolution of the Soviet Union initiated a transformative journey for Russia towards a market-oriented economy, fostering a surge in entrepreneurial activities, particularly among the youth. This paper delves into the multifaceted phenomenon of entrepreneurial migration among young Russians, exploring their motivations, challenges, and successes in establishing businesses abroad. Drawing from recent literature, the study elucidates the distinctive characteristics of Russian young entrepreneurs and examines the interplay of push and pull factors influencing their decision to migrate. Employing qualitative interviews with 16 participants, the research uncovers nuanced insights into the emigration process, including educational backgrounds, resource acquisition, and encountered obstacles. Through a comprehensive analysis, common patterns and strategies of entrepreneurial migration emerge, contributing to a deeper understanding of this dynamic phenomenon. The paper concludes with reflections on limitations and implications, offering a holistic view of the evolving landscape of Russian entrepreneurial migration.
