Dynamic Retry Policies In Userver

Student: Afanaseva Anastasiya

Supervisor: Ilya Samonenko

Faculty: Faculty of Computer Science

Educational Programme: Applied Mathematics and Information Science (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2024

Retry storm is a type of failure in distributed systems caused by a significant number of simultaneous attempts to make retries to the server. As a result, system's availability suffers, which is one of the critical characteristics. userver, a modern asynchronous library in C++, has a HTTP client that is not sufficiently secured against such potential incidents. As a result of this work, dynamic algorithms for dealing with such disasters will be added to the HTTP client in userver, namely retry budget and retry circuit breaker. Two schemes for embedding these algorithms into a HTTP client have been proposed and implemented. Their efficiency was proven using measurements, and experimental testing of the algorithms was carried out under simulated failure conditions.
