Medieval Concepts of Jihad in the Interpretation of Salafi Preacher Abu Sufyan al-Sulami (1984–2017)

This paper is devoted to identifying the peculiarities of the interpretation of medieval concepts of jihad in the works of salafi preacher Abu Sufyan al-Sulami (1984-2017). Terrorist activities of the extremist organization "Islamic State" for many years have been a threat to international security, so the study of the views of one of the main ideologists of this group acquires special relevance. The analysis of domestic and foreign research works allowed us to identify the key conceptual foundations of the study of military jihad and salafism. The study of al-Sulami's discourse revealed the main provisions of his concept of military jihad. By comparing al-Sulami's concept of jihad with the medieval concepts of Ibn Taymiyyah (1263–1328) and al-Qayyim (1292–1350), the discrepancy between the original medieval provisions and their interpretation by the ideologue of the Islamic State was revealed.
