The thesis is devoted to the analysis of the texts of Russian rock music in the films of Alexei Balabanov. Despite the fact that the director's films have often been studied in scientific discourse, a comprehensive study of the soundtrack has not yet been done. One of Balabanov's distinctive features is the frequent use of rock poetry as an element of the film language, which adds additional meaning to the film narrative. In this thesis, it will be analyzed whether the introduction of new themes through the texts of rock songs is a characteristic feature of the artistic language of A. Balabanov, Russian cinema in general, or cinema of the 1990s-2000s. To compare the functions of rock music texts in Balabanov's films, the soundtrack with words in Soviet and post-Soviet films of the 1950s-2000s, as well as in foreign films of the 1990s-2000s, will be considered.
