In the past few years, an increasing number of women face reproductive problems, become unable to get pregnant, to bear and give birth to a child. Most often, they become patients of clinics, resorting to the help of assisted reproductive technologies, leaving aside the psychological aspect of readiness for parenthood. In this thesis, we consider a psychoanalytic approach to issues of female infertility and assume reproductive difficulties could be rooted in the unconscious as well as received from previous generations. The empirical part of the current study represents three cases of patients with infertility, based on which hypotheses about the influence of transgenerational transmission of trauma on the formation of female selfhood and the ability to become a mother is discussed. The connection between borderline personality disorder and reproductive issues is also a part of research. The ban on female-maternal development and its connection with the transgenerational transmission of generic scripts is analyzed.
