Student: Gusamov Ruslan

Supervisor: Varvara Molodtsova

Faculty: Faculty of Urban and Regional Development

Educational Programme: Urban Planning (Bachelor)

Final Grade: 8

Year of Graduation: 2024

The study is devoted to such a phenomenon as “ger districts” in Ulaanbaatar. Their growth and development is examined in the context of their influence on ongoing urban policies over the period 2000-2024. The reasons for their appearance are also analyzed through the phenomenon of modern nomadic life and its trends and changes in Mongolia. A comparison is made with similar phenomena - such as “nakhalovki” and “favelas” in the context of squatter settlements and self-construction. A conclusion is drawn about the key role of ger districts in the development of modern Ulaanbaatar and how they determine the modern appearance of the city. The territorial planning documents of Ulaanbaatar and how they reflect the growth of yurt quarters are analyzed.
