Problems and Barriers to the Participation of Medical Personnel and Patients in the Design of Hospital Buildings and Territories

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a health crisis, demonstrating the need to expand hospital capacity. As a result, new hospital buildings began to be actively put into operation in Moscow. When designing modern hospitals, they use the concept of creating comfortable, humanized hospital spaces. However, the low level of involvement of the medical community and patients in the planning process leads to a loss of functionality in the use of hospital buildings and areas. The study aims to examine the spatial decisions made in the design of hospital layouts to improve efficiency and effectiveness. The object of the study is participation in the design of hospital buildings and territories, and the subject is the participation of medical personnel and patients in the design of hospital buildings and territories. The study is being conducted on the basis of the Moscow multidisciplinary medical center "Kommunarka", the hospital was selected as one of the modern city hospitals positioning itself as an innovative multidisciplinary center with more than 1000 beds. The research will use the following methods: in-depth interviews with hospital patients and expert interviews with the medical community.
