Russian Germans is a common name for Germans living in the territory of modern Russia. This ethnic community was formed during complex migration processes, was forcibly relocated in 1941 and began to reform its own national institutions only in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Now it is possible to observe the process of creating a new group identity, constructing a common historical memory. This study is devoted to a complex and heterogeneous set of narratives about the past that exist in the community of Russian Germans and its local subgroups. The focus of the analysis is on the means by which these narratives are constructed, the conditions for their formation and transmission.
