This paper examines the potential of mushroom mycelium-based materials for use in urban construction within the context of sustainable development. The physical characteristics of mycelium and the factors affecting its properties are discussed. The advantages and limitations of using these materials are analysed. Through a review of the literature, case studies and expert interviews, the main challenges and prospects for mycelium use in construction are identified. Barriers related to mass production, certification and financing of innovations in this field are discussed. Despite the potential of mycelium-based composites in the construction industry, their use is currently limited to small prototypes and structures due to insufficient mechanical strength, lack of standardisation of production methods and material properties. However, experts have identified the potential of these materials to reduce the use of natural resources, reduce pollution and improve the energy efficiency of buildings. The paper emphasises the necessity of clear environmental requirements, energy efficiency standards and measures to popularise green materials, as well as the active role of consolidated efforts in promoting green innovations.
