Stanislaw Czerniecki’s "Compendium ferculorum albo Zebranie potraw” in Russian Manuscript Translations

The genre of a cookbook has only been recently established as a worthy research subject in regards to textual criticism and philological analysis, however it has already proven itself as a profitable subject matter, since it yields valuable insights not only on the matters of the history of private life, but also on the linguistic enrichment of the language with specific vocabulary, such as ingredients, the methods and approaches the cook implements, and the technical equipment, which in turn allows to describe more precisely, how does the process of  textual and linguistic codification of the new terms occurs. Specifically, the matter at hand of the proposed thesis deals with the first known cookbook in Russian, which itself constitutes of the translation and interpretation of the Baroque Polish cookbook Compendium ferculorum albo Zebranie potraw [The Collection of Dishes], written Stanislaw Czerniecki, a secretary of the prince and Krakow voivode Aleksander Michał Lubomirski, and published in 1682. As of now, there are four recognised manuscript translations of Compendium ferculorum into Russian, all completed during the time from the latter quarter of the XVII century to 1760. The primary goal of the thesis is to create a textological publication of the four manuscripts, as well as a historical and philological commentary, in order to attract an academic interest to the texts and to introduce them into the academic use.
