Translation as a Form of Reception of the Fairy Tales of M.-C. Madame d'Aulnoy in Russia

French literary fairy tales of the 17-18th centuries have repeatedly become the subject of research. However, it can be argued that there is a gap in the analysis of translations of these tales, namely, in the study of the work of Marie—Catherine d'Aulnoy is available in Russian translations.Despite the significant contribution of Marie-Catherine d'He contributed to the development of the fairy tale genre, she remains an unknown figure to most readers in Russia, unlike her contemporary Charles Perrault. Therefore, this work aims to fill this gap in the field of studying fairy tale translations into Russian and their reception, focusing on early translations of the works of Marie-Catherine d'Aulnoy.The study has practical value for translators working with 17th-century French literature, as it analyzes various translation strategies. In addition, the work fills a gap in the study of the translation of French literature of the 17-18th centuries, summarizing and clarifying many previous studies directly related to literary French fairy tales. This study will use the methodological approaches of John Cawelti and Lawrence Venuti, as well as their works "The Study of Literary Formulas" and "Rethinking Translation: Discourse, Subjectivity, Ideology". Their methods will allow us not only to analyze existing translations of fairy tales by Marie-Catherine d’Aulnoy, but also to offer their own translation options for some difficult moments in order to create translations that optimally convey the game with folklore and gallant salon culture, which is missing in some parts of the original texts.
