Within the framework of the theory of housing location in the city, based on the principles of households who seek to maximize their satisfaction in choosing a place of residence, taking into account time and material constraints, the paper examines the impact of preferences and mobility needs on the decision on housing location, and identifies the phenomenon of spatial organization of society associated with time constraints. The paper focuses on analyzing the impact of transportation costs and travel time costs on the choice of where to live in the city, and performs an estimation of total costs in this choice based on Russian data. The main objective of the study is to test the hypothesis that the general patterns of the relationship between transportation and housing costs in Russia are consistent with the practices of other countries with similar patterns of settlement and urban planning.
