This study is devoted to the Russian architecture in the period of the second half of the XIX century. To be more specific it is devoted to how elements of medieval Russian architecture were represented in the Russian architecture in the period of the second half of XIX century. The work is aimed at recognizing and tracking the elements of the medieval architecture and following how and why they changed throughout the stated period of time. The period that is taken into the attention in this research has a special fame of being the time when citizens of the Russian Empire became interested in their past and started trying to integrate medieval images in different parts of their life, including architecture. It is worth mentioning that not only the members of the royal family started doing it but also people from both aristocratic and rich backgrounds started surrounding themselves with such images. To be more specific, simple individuals who had no connections with royals started asking to construct their buildings with inclusion of medieval images. This research is aimed to investigate ways how representation changed through time in both areas: private order; order connected with governmental claims and claims of the royal family. The main purpose of this study can be formulated in that way: to consider and analyze the representations and transformations of images of the Russian Middle Ages in Russian architecture of the second half of the XIX century through the prism of architectural and technical journals, research papers and other sources in two areas: private and connected with governmental/royal order.й
