Pricing in the transfer market in European football

Transfer deals allow the club to increase its competitiveness on the playing field and achieve financial stability in case if a profitable transfer policy strategy is chosen. The purpose of this study is to identify the measure of the influence of factors determining the transfer value of players in European football in the last summer transfer window available for analysis. Two regression models are used for both forwards and defenders. Each model contains variables that reflect individual characteristics of the players, game statistics, the bargaining power of the clubs, and agents. The sample includes 400 transactions made during the summer transfer window of the 2023/2024 season. The top 5 clubs in Europe are considered - the Premier League (England), La Liga (Spain), Serie A (Italy), Bundesliga (Germany), Ligue 1 (France). The results show that the transfer price is influenced not only by the player's game statistics, but also by the specifics of the contract, the negotiating power of clubs and agents. After the introduction, the theoretical part of the work will be presented, followed by the practical part, results and conclusion.
