In the context of the dynamic development of trading companies and the rapidly growing amount of data, the implementation of business intelligence (BI) systems can facilitate data-driven decision-making and improve companies’ performance. The purpose of the research is to evaluate the impact of BI-system implementation on the performance of Russian trading companies. We adopt long-term event study methodology for a sample of 66 Russian trading companies which implemented BI-systems from 2008-2020. Event study has revealed a positive effect of BI-systems implementation. Regression analysis has confirmed the negative impact of previous performance on the effect from the implementation of BI-systems, and has also revealed a negative influence of sales growth. The findings can inform the management of trading companies on the feasibility of business intelligence systems implementation, particularly in light of the emerging question regarding the advisability of repeated implementations after Western vendors have exited the Russian market.
