This study is dedicated to answer the question - why the development of Japan-ASEAN dialogue in the Indo-Pacific region not only creates new opportunities for these two economic units, but also is a driving force for unifying the region and focusing on common global challenges, regardless of the difference in goals between the main geopolitical players. The hypothesis of this study is formulated as follows: one of the trends in the development of Japan-ASEAN relations in the Indo-Pacific perspective is the switching of regional attention from balancing the Chinese threat to developing cooperation to support Sustainability Development.
