The UN Security Council Sanctions Regime, established in 2006 by Resolution 1718, was designed to compel North Korea to relinquish its nuclear missile program and return to the framework of international treaties. However, over the past 18 years, it has become evident that the proposed sanctions restrictions are unable to alter Pyongyang's behavior. The intensifying geopolitical conflict between the UN Security Council member states is significantly undermining the regime, as it challenges the international consensus on this matter. The differing perceptions of the regime's goals among the United States, China, and Russia have led to a breakdown in communication, and the resulting mistrust is hindering the possibility of a peaceful resolution to the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.
