This work is dedicated to the study of the diary of the Kostroma priest V. V. Rumyantsev, which was created during the author's last twelve years of life (1950-1962s). The diary consists of eight notebooks, including the author’s discussions about politics and religion, autobiography and wills. The purpose of the study is to determine how Rumyantsev’s ego-document aligns his narrative identity with historical events. Thus, the diary is viewed in three ways. The paper examined the thematic complex of the diary and identified the most common and, therefore, significant for the author topics of politics and religion. In addition, the work explores the organization of the textual space of the diary, in particular, the architectonics of the diary, marginalia and auto-comments that the author left on the margins of the ego-document. Finally, the work addresses the language used by the author. Interestingly, the document uses the language of both religious texts and the authoritative language of Soviet newspapers. The study uses methods of intrinsic analysis and comparative analysis of texts.
