In this master's thesis, the internet consumption of Generations X and Y among the residents of Saint Petersburg during periods of global upheaval is examined. The aim of the study is to identify patterns of internet consumption and their changes under the influence of events such as pandemics and political crises. The research is based on semi-structured interviews with representatives of both generations. The main findings show that Generation Y uses the internet more actively for social interactions and entertainment, while Generation X is more focused on obtaining information and professional use, as well as creating a comfortable and safe internet environment. During global upheavals, both generations increase their time spent online, but the nature of their consumption changes, with increased interest in news content. The practical significance of the work lies in understanding how different generations adapt to changes in the internet environment.
