Strategic Workforce Planning in Conditions of Uncertainty

The research was conducted to identify the ways to increase efficiency of the existing workforce planning process in a large industrial company X of the oil and gas industry. The author clarified the basic concepts in the field of strategic workforce planning, reviewed the existing academic literature on strategic workforce planning, the uncertainty and the organizational sustainability. The practical techniques were also analyzed and compared The work is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the principles and stages of strategic workforce planning. A study of the current workforce planning process at the company X has identified areas for improving its effectiveness. Recommendations are given on improving the existing strategic planning process to take into account the risk of complexity of staffing, as well as building a relationship between the processes of strategic planning and workforce planning. Based on the analysis of strategic planning techniques, an adapted toolkit was developed. This adapted methodology for strategic workforce planning was tested. The results of the study revealed the main problems and challenges facing companies of the oil and gas industry in the field of the strategic workforce planning. The results of the research will be useful to companies wishing to increase the efficiency and flexibility of organizations, as well as researchers in the field of effective approaches and methods of strategic workforce planning. In addition, the recommendations can be used by specialists in various areas of human resources (training and development; compensation and benefits, etc.) to adjust their own strategy programs based on the strategic plans of the organization.
