Development for a Business Plan for a CycleTI Startup in the Field of Information Security

Student: Burlak Darya

Supervisor: Igor Tsarkov

Faculty: Graduate School of Business

Educational Programme: Business Administration (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2024

The relevance of the final qualification work is due to the significant changes that occurred in the domestic information security (IS) market after February 2022, when the largest Western technology companies massively stopped their activities in Russia. As a result, Russian business is faced with a shortage of high-quality solutions that were previously offered by IBM, Fortinet, Cisco, AVG Technologies, Palo Alto Networks, Imperva and other companies. Today, the domestic business is in search of information security tools that would provide high-quality infrastructure protection. The trend towards import substitution is supported by Decree No. 250 of the President of the Russian Federation, which focuses on ensuring effective information security practices, not "paper" ones, as well as on using SPI only from friendly countries. The Cyber Threat Intelligence Platform (CTIP) class of solutions is just starting to gain popularity in 2024. CTIP is mainly used by large companies that already have a well-developed infrastructure and SOC (Security Operation Center). In other words, the trend towards cyber intelligence platforms is just beginning to develop during the period of import substitution. The problem lies in the lack of high-quality Threat Intelligence solutions on the domestic market. The analysis of the client's needs showed that the products presented on the market do not imply an individual approach to the analysis of the client's industry. In view of this, the main goal of the project is to develop a financial strategy within the framework of a business plan, in which it will be possible to create a product focused on the main needs of the client and not lose the financial stability of the business. The objectives of the research are as follows: Analysis of the cybersecurity market and the cyber intelligence industry in Russia; Determination of the potential attractiveness of the product for the target audience; Development of a value proposition for the client; Determination of the amount and sources of financing for a startup; Identification of risks and ways to overcome them; Assessment of profitability and sustainability of the business with the developed strategy. Limitations of the study. The limitations of this work are narrow applicability. This is due to the fact that the results of the final work can only be implemented in the Russian cybersecurity market. The results of the work cannot be used for other startups due to the specifics of the market. The object of the study is the CycleTI startup. The subject of the study is a financial strategy within the framework of a business plan and an assessment of the profitability and sustainability of a startup in the Russian information security market. Professional significance. Managers, senior executives and entrepreneurial engineers will find value in this work, as it presents a development strategy and a financing model for a cybersecurity startup. Moreover, the recommendations will allow you to plan actions aimed at business growth and minimize the company's risks.
