Year of Graduation: 2024

In this master's thesis, fashion is considered as a phenomenon that can be explained using psychoanalytic theory. It analyzes how unconscious desires, anxieties, and complexes influence the choice of clothing and style. The work explores various aspects such as the symbolism of clothing, the role of identification and gender identity in the formation of fashion preferences, and the influence of cultural and social factors on individual and collective fashion practices. Special attention is paid to the concepts of Sigmund Freud, Carl Gustav Jung, and Jacques Lacan, as well as contemporary psychoanalytic theories. The thesis examines cultural artifacts and various forms of artistic expression, exploring the work of famous photographers and fashion house shows. An important part of the work is the analysis of costume symbolism in the film "The Poor Things" directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. The practical applicability of interviews focusing on clothing choice, personal style, and their alignment with fashion trends in the context of working with clients from a psychoanalytic perspective is determined. The research successfully identified correlations between style changes, clothing choices, and psychological transformations of the individual, as well as confirmed the effectiveness of interviews focusing on fashion preferences within the framework of a psychoanalytic approach.
