The paper examines the issue of formation of tangible assets in the oil and gas industry amid the ongoing energy transition. The study identified the existing trends and challenges in the context of low-carbon development that affect the financial condition and operational flexibility of oil and gas companies. A comprehensive analysis of the factors contributing to a decrease in the liquidity of tangible assets of oil and gas companies is presented, including the changes in the structure of energy demand and a decrease in petroleum products prices. The result of the study is the scenario forecast of the financial performance dynamics including the return on tangible equity indicator for TotalEnergies company when implementing Stated Policies Scenario and Announced Pledges Scenario developed by the International Energy Agency. In conclusion, strategic approaches to managing tangible assets aimed at minimizing transitional risks and adapting oil and gas companies to new market conditions are presented.
