This work is devoted to the study of the dynamics of the tonality of Soviet and post-Soviet songs in Russian from the 1950s to the 2010s. The main material for the study was chosen to be the rock genre, due to its many variations in the form of subgenres. The main theory of the study is that a variety of rock subgenres contribute to the plethora of sentiment, emotions, as well as topics raised in the texts. The text analysis was carried out using natural language processing (NLP) methods, using Python code and with the use of pre-trained models. The first chapter tells about the history of rock, starting from the moment of its origin in the USA in the 40s, popularisation in the world, moving on to the Soviet and Russian history of the genre. The second chapter of the study describes the processes of data collection and dataset creation, details and results of sentiment and emotions analyses in song lyrics, as well as topic modeling. For the obtained results, graphs were compiled for clarity, the analysis of dynamics was carried out and the trends were defined.
