The Therapeutic Alliance as an Element of the Psychoanalytic Frame

This graduate thesis is devoted to the study of the place of the concept of therapeutic alliance in the analytic setting, as well as the role of the therapeutic relationship of the analytic couple in the development of the analytic process. The purpose of the research is to analyze the existing theoretical views on the alliance as an element of the method and to outline the ways of practical application of this concept by novice specialists. The study is an attempt to comprehend the results of the authors' practical application of modern ideas about the role of the analyst in alliance formation, ways of adapting setting to the needs of the patient, and the therapist's responsibility to uphold the ethics of the psychoanalytic method both to the patient and to the psychoanalytic community. The concept of the therapeutic alliance is viewed not only as a theoretical concept, but also as a tool of psychoanalytic psychotherapy technique that allows even the novice therapist to ensure the development of a true analytic process. Ways of practical application of the concept are outlined from the perspectives of analysts of the French psychoanalytic school, as well as the proponents of post-Bionian field theory.
