Mystification in literature serves as a tool for understanding the world and man, its internal and external mysteries, and remains a relevant topic in the texts of modern authors. In this work considered the image of the city of Saint Petersburg, which since its foundation is a symbol of terrible mysteries and mysterious legends due to its rich history. The study is based on a comparison of 19th and 21st century works. With the help of psychological portraits of the characters and the description of the space of the city, similarities and differences in the traditions of mystification of the image of the city were revealed among classical and modern authors.
