The work is devoted to the study of the poetics of a major democratic publication of the second half of the 1860s - the magazine "Delo" by G. E. Blagosvetlov. Two significant periods in its history - 1866 and 1869 - are studied in detail. The analysis is carried out using statistical metrics and a tagging system, which allows us to trace the development of the journal's poetics and compare its content with other journals, in particular, with Blagosvetlov's previous journal "Russkoye Slovo". The findings are used to indicate continuity with "Russkoye Slovo" and to identify the main direction of Dela at the beginning of the journal's existence and at its peak. The paper also records a number of thematic clusters that most often attract the attention of the magazine's authors according to the most frequent tags. The study shows how the poetics of the magazine was formed and how the traditional for periodicals and new features of the poetics - the substantial unity of the issue, internal ‘rhymes’, seriality, ‘Aesopian language’ - were used to overcome censorship, allowed to comply with the ideological programme of the magazine and implement the ambitious goals of Blagosvetlov's editorial policy.
