Educational Programme: Philology (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2024

The final qualifying work is devoted to the study of the dog as a political animal in Soviet cinema. The purpose of the work is to trace the history of changing the image of a dog as a cultural construct and to consider the representation of a dog in Soviet cinema. The hypothesis of the study is that the dog, as a cultural construct, became widespread in the USSR, was an accurate metaphor and conveyed the relationship between the Soviet system and man, since one of the main models of relations in the USSR was the "master-subordinate who needs to be educated" model, and the image of the dog changed along with the attitude of the system to a man. The main research methods are comparative, cultural-historical and contextual analysis. The main line of the narrative is based on the films "Julbars" (1935), "High Reward" (1939), "To me, Mukhtar!" (1965), "Border Dog Scarlet (1979)", "Faithful Ruslan (1992)", other films with dogs are also mentioned in the course of the work.
