Educational Programme: Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Business Consulting (Master)

Year of Graduation: 2024

The master's dissertation is devoted to exploring the possibility of integrating the psychodynamic approach and career guidance tools. The work was carried out with the aim of theoretically analyzing the role of unconscious processes in difficulties with professional self-determination, as well as generalizing practical experience when working with such requests while integrating the psychodynamic approach and career guidance tools. The volume of the master's dissertation is 85 pages; 38 literature sources were used. Key words: career guidance tools, professional self-determination, vocation, psychodynamic approach. In order to study the psychodynamic view of the process of professional self-determination, the dissertation describes the field of career guidance: its development history, main approaches, methods and techniques, and it also provides the analysis of limitations of standard career guidance tools from the psychodynamic point of view, revealing its basic concepts in application to the process of professional self-determination. It was concluded based on the analysis conducted that the unconscious processes have not been sufficiently studied in the relevant literature sources, while the origins of complexities of professional self-determination lie precisely in the unconscious sphere. The empirical part of the dissertation was carried out in two areas of research: analysis of interviews of three specialists working with requests for professional self-determination and integrating the psychodynamic approach and career guidance tools, as well as analysis of transcripts of sessions with three clients, work with whom was based on one of the approaches described by the specialists. The study fully confirmed the hypothesis that the psychodynamic approach enriches the career guidance tools through the study of unconscious processes that play a decisive role in the complexities of professional self-determination. The dissertation has practical value for specialists working with such requests; it provides recommendations to explore the unconscious drives and conflicts leading to resistance to career guidance work and the implementation of developed career decisions, to turn to the childhood, exploring identification with parents and the attitudes acquired then, which have influence on a current professional path.
