The movement of Symbolism in poetry has been always characterized by an extensive system of visual images, most of which are based on the author's emotions and interpreted through the lens of the lyrical hero's experience. One of the highlights of French poetry has become the city of Paris. This city has been used in the poems of such well-known authors as Charles Baudelaire, Arthur Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine. Based on the analysis of the poems, the paper will identify the peculiarities of the portrayal of the french metropolis by each of the selected authors. The main method of research consists of analysis of the selected literary works and critical literature about the topic of the depiction of Paris in symbolist poetry and terms ‎‎«‎Paris myth»‎ and ‎‎«‎Paris discourse»‎. The aim of the work is to provide a comparative analysis of the image of the city among the Symbolist poets, as well as a diachronic study of the image of Paris in French literature.
