Intercultural Differences in Delivering Criticism (Based on Academic Discourse)

With universities becoming more international, the issue of giving negative feedback to students is increasingly important. However, little research has focused on evaluation processes in academia from a cultural perspective. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, this paper explores how cultural differences affect the delivery and reception of criticism among foreign bachelor's and master's students at the School of Foreign Languages, at HSE. By gathering data through questionnaires and in-depth interviews, the study identified patterns in in the international students' interpretation of negative feedback and offered practical recommendations for delivering criticism in culturally diverse audiences.
