The work is devoted to the study of Andrei Bely's early prose from the point of view of narratology (on the material of short stories of 1902-1908 and the story “The Silver Dove”). The material is of great interest for the analysis - despite the fact that the author in the early texts does not use the technique of “eloquence”, the language of “difficult reading”, in them he already resorts to the technique of “narrative inarticulacy”, which complicates the process of perception of the text. Narratorial presence in the works of the early period is more pronounced than in the texts of the author's late period, in them it is possible to trace the narratorial position and identify the characteristics of the narrator. Identifying narrative strategies can help to understand the hidden authorial intention or features of the text that are unnoticeable at first reading. Among the works of the early period, texts written in ornamental tale, incorporating features of the tale and ornamental prose, are investigated.
