In this research Irene Nemirovsky's novel «Suite Française» and Jean-Paul Sartre's trilogy «The Roads to Freedom» are being analyzed and compared in combination with the provisions of the philosophical trend of existentialism presented by European philosophers of the first half of the twentieth century. The study examines the impact of war on the life experience of the characters in the texts of the trilogy of Sartre and of the roman by Nemirovsky, historical and socio-cultural contexts are taken into account. A comparative analysis of the embodiments of such existential concepts as responsibility, freedom and choice through key and less studied secondary characters is also carried out. War is considered and designated as an existential concept of a borderline situation. Due to the incompleteness of both the novel and Sartre's texts (originally planned as a tetralogy), it is important to refer to the letters of Irene Nemirovsky and Sartre's draft plans, which contain information about the initial intentions and further intended development of the characters. In addition, one of the main goals of this study is the actualization of the novel by Irene Nemirovsky, who has the role of a forgotten author in the modern scientific space. Her novel can be attributed to the iconic texts of the Second World War era, since it focuses on the psychological aspects of the impact of war on a person. Keywords: Irene Nemirovsky, Jean-Paul Sartre, «The Roads to Freedom», «Suite Française»,existentialism, war, borderline situation, comparative analysis
