The Rhythmic Patterns of I. A. Brodsky's Translated and Original Poetry before the Emigration

This research paper is dedicated to analyzing the rhythmic characteristics of Joseph Brodsky's translated and original poetry during the pre-emigration period. The aim of the study is to identify the formal peculiarities of English metaphysical poetry translations, conducted by Brodsky, and to determine the influence of the poet's translation work on his original poems. The methodology involves comparative study and computerized verse analysis that allows a detailed examination of the poems' rhythmic features and a mathematical explanation of the monotony observed in Brodsky's poetry. The first chapter of the paper focuses on the analysis of the poet's interviews and essays to determine his translation concept, which establishes the methodological approach to investigating his translated works. In the second chapter structural elements and rhythm of translated poetry are examined, while the third part contains a study of Brodsky's original Russian poetic texts and determines the influence of his translation work on the development of his own poetic style. The findings of this research enable us to view Brodsky's translated poetry as a stage in the formation of the poetics of his own literary works.
