This investigation is devoted to the study of the topical topic of the use of interactive teaching methods for the development of students' dialogical speech in English lessons in middle grades. As part of the work, an analysis of the literature on the topic was carried out, as well as an experimental study with the development of its own multidimensional scale of student engagement. The study reveals the importance of using interactive teaching methods to stimulate the activity of schoolchildren and emphasizes the role of dialogic speech in the formation of communication skills. The hypothesis of the work suggests that the lack of interactive teaching methods leads to a low level of student involvement in the learning process. The scientific purpose of the study is to identify the level of student engagement and its relationship with the use of interactive teaching methods in English lessons. The research methodology includes a theoretical analysis of the literature, the development of a multidimensional scale of engagement and conducting surveys and interviews. The results of the study allowed us to determine the low level of student involvement in additional English classes and a high level of indifference. Interviews with students revealed the reasons for low engagement, such as sports, lack of motivation and interaction, as well as a lack of challenge in learning. The conclusion of the work contains recommendations on the introduction of interactive tasks to stimulate students, improve communication and create a positive atmosphere in the classroom. The proposed measures are aimed at increasing the level of involvement and effectiveness of the educational process. The research has both theoretical and practical significance, and also offers new research methods. Keywords: engagement, interactive methods, dialogic speech, English, multidimensional scale of engagement
