Educational Programme: Pedagogy (Master)

Year of Graduation: 2024

The paper deals with the process of designing a course on inter- and transcultural communication and intercultural competence in German. The design is carried out according to the model of pedagogical design - reverse engineering (Understanding by Design). The paper analyses current approaches to the development of intercultural communicative competence. The work provides a detailed description of theoretical approaches to the study of ICC, its components and models of formation. The master's thesis includes an analysis of German language teaching aids, demonstrating the insufficient number of assignments aimed at the development of ICC. Many of them aim to develop cultural awareness. This component is insufficient for conducting professional activities in an intercultural environment. Therefore, the described development pays great attention to the issue of applying techniques for ICC development and their implementation in a course designed according to the UbD model to achieve the goals of improving students' ICC. The course fully meets the CEFR requirements for levels B1-B2 and is aimed at the formation of intercultural competences described in the curricula of the Bachelor's degree programs "International Relations" and "World Economy" implemented by the National Research University Higher School of Economics. Based on the course validation at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, recommendations for its further use were formulated.
